Most Amazing Ancient Discoveries

Following are some ancient sites and artifacts that have kept history alive and blooming in our life.

1. Qin Shi Huang’s Terracotta Army:

Yang found this craved army in the front of the tomb of Qin Shi Huang that was buried there from many years . These sculptures were carved by 7 lack army warriers and it was made on such an illusion that this carving would save them after death. Thousands of human and animal sculptures were also carved in unique fashion and strange thing about them is that actual armor and weapons were used to create this eminent masterpiece. Despite the sculptures are found but the tomb is not found up till now.

2. The Dead Sea Scrolls

It has been found near the shore of Dead Sea and it is ancient Hebrew manuscript. This manuscript is sacred as most of the text is biblical and manuscripts of other ancient and scared books are engraved on it. Some commentaries and non biblical text is also present as lines of Old Testament has added to its beauty. This manuscript is known to be written by Essenes and is hidden around First Jewish Revolt.

3. The Royal Library of Ashurbanipal:

This clay tablet was found at Mesopatamian city of Nineveh (Iraq) and Austen Henry Layard had discovered it. There is about 25000 clay tablets collection. Ashurbanipal was the king of Assyria and he was great collector of ancient artifacts and was zealous enough to add collections in his library. The tablets were considered sacred and religious as the text contains royal inscriptions, chronicles, mythological and religious texts, contracts, royal grants and decrees, royal letters, omens, incantations, hymns to various gods and texts on medicine, astronomy, and literature. In 612 BC the place where these ancient artifacts were kept was burned and the tablets were preserved there in smoldered form.

4. Tutankhamun’s Tomb (KV62):

This antique had been found by British Egyptologist Howard Carter in 1992 and he discovered it in The Valley of King. Actually Carter was searching for Tut since 1907 and it was believed that the tomb was created for some other purpose but it was turned into noble tomb. Tut’s tomb is beautiful creation as it comprises of a burial chamber, a treasury, an annex and an antechamber, that can be approached by a stairway and a sloped corridor. This tomb also consists of sculptures, statues and carvings of boats, chariots and some mummies of humans.

5. Pompeii:

This is an old city that was discovered in 6^th century that was founded under Greek, Etruscan, Samnite and now finally came under the control of Roman Control. This exotic place had once preserved eminent villas, temples, theaters and baths that have preserved ancient civilization. It was known as home of 20,000 inhabitants. Moreover due to serious natural disasters the city had been destroyed badly. Earthquake and volcanic eruptions had turned the city into ashes. This city had remained desolated since very long since it was rediscovered in 1748 again.At last a horrible earthquake and volcanic eruption took over them and all the people and animals got jammed and are preserved in that lava as a sign of God’s fury and punishment.

6. The Lascaux Cave:

This splendid cave is home of several Paleolithic cave paintings and is situated in France. This cave was discovered by four young lads in 1940. This cave has more than 2000 pictures of animals, humans, and abstract art that have kept alive ancient culture. The painted animals included Stags, Cattle, Bisons, Felines, a bird, a Rhinoceros and a Bear. Many tourists got attracted to visit this eminent place because of these paintings and pictures. But unfortunately now the art is endangered as the cave is assaulted by molds, fungi, and bacteria.

7. Peking Man:

Peking Man is also known as Beijing Man that was discovered in 1927 and was founded in China. People believed that this place was once home of 45 humans. Researchers also believed that Peking Man could stand erect, knew how to use fire and had striking features as thick brow and large teeth. These fossils were lost during World War 2 but rediscovered later.

8. The Rosetta Stone:

This ancient slab of stone was known to be created millions of years ago and Egyptian decree is engraved on the stone in Greek, Demotic Egyptian and Egyptian hieroglyphs. This slab was kept in safe place as was placed in display of a temple but later was used as building material. Captain Pierre had discovered it in 1799 in Egypt. Many translators has translated the manuscript and the text is indeed a language not just mix of symbols.

9. The Behistun Rock:

This rock had been discovered in 1598 by Robert Sherley who was an Englishman. This ancient artifact is autobiography of Darius who has written several eminent events followed by the death of Cyrus. Many translators have translated the manuscript as Georg Friedrich Grotefend (Old Persian), Sir Henry Rawlinson, Edward Hincks, Julius Oppert, William Henry Fox Talbot and Edwin Norris; have translated it in several language.

10. The Olduvai Gorge:

This eminent lake basin is situated in northern Tanzania and German entomologist Wilhelm Kattwinkel has discovered it in 1911. The discovery is amazing as Wilhelm was chasing a butterfly. Three species of hominids were found there also various animal remains and fossils were found including Antelopes, Elephants, Hares, Guinea Fowl, Giraffes and Hipparions.
